Routine Exams

The secret to a bright, healthy smile is actually no secret at all: brush, floss and get a professional dental exam at least once every six months. Professional dental exams are all about prevention – preventing existing problems from getting worse and preventing dental problems from developing in the future. Regular dental exams make it possible to identify and treat a problem in its earliest stage – which is not only good for your oral health but also good for your budget!

There's nothing to fear with a dental exam. Your teeth will be visually examined for signs of plaque, tartar and tooth decay. Your gums will also be examined for puffiness or discoloration, which are signs of gum disease. A full set of dental X-rays may also be taken during your dental exam, to enable your dentist to see below the surfaces of your teeth. Dental exams typically end with a dental cleaning, to remove surface stains and buildup.

Dental Fillings

If you've been told you need a dental filling, you're not alone: 92% of Americans have had at least one cavity. Dental fillings are the tried-and-true treatment for treating cavities – and they come in a variety of options to suit every need. Dental fillings can be made of silver amalgam, composite, porcelain and even gold. Amalgam fillings have been used by dentists for more than a century and are still the most common and cost-effective type of dental filling. But composite fillings, which are made of a tooth-colored plastic and glass composite, are quickly becoming the preferred dental filling due to their natural appearance and durability. The type of dental filling used is determined by a number of factors, including size and location of the cavity, as well as your budget.

It's almost impossible to feel confident when you smile if you're missing teeth. Cosmetic dental implants can change that. With cosmetic dental implants, you get the best in function and aesthetics. Cosmetic dental implants are securely anchored in the jaw bone for maximum comfort and durability. The replacement tooth, or dental crown, is made of tooth-colored porcelain so that your cosmetic dental implants look, feel and function just like your real teeth!

Dentures & Veneers

Using dentures to replace missing teeth is not only great for your oral health; it's a great way to look and feel younger! Today, there are a variety of natural-looking and comfortable dentures for patients who need to replace missing teeth. Made of a gum-colored plastic resin or acrylic base and either resin or porcelain replacement teeth, dentures are custom designed to fit your mouth. If you have several teeth or all teeth missing on the upper or lower jaw, full dentures may be your best option. Partial dentures, which can be either fixed or removable, are great for patients who have several missing teeth scattered along the upper or lower jaw.

The process of getting dentures may take a few months and several dental visits. In some cases, however, same-day dentures are also possible. With same-day dentures, the dentures are created right in the dentist's office instead of at an offsite laboratory. Same-day dentures aren't for everyone, though. If your dentures require a lot of customization, same-day dentures may not be right for you.

Just as with your natural teeth, dentures require daily maintenance. With regular wear and tear, your dentures can last 5-7 years. During that time, you may need periodic denture relines to accommodate changes in the contours of your mouth. Regular denture relines involve resurfacing the base to ensure that your dentures fit and function perfectly. If you break your dentures, it's critical to bring them to your dentist for professional denture repair. Home denture repair kits can cause more damage and be even more costly to fix.

Wisdom Teeth

With a detailed oral examination and x-rays of the jaws, Dr. Ostro and Dr. Rabovskaya can evaluate the position of the wisdom teeth and determine if there are present or future potential problems. Studies have shown that early evaluation and treatment result in a superior outcome for the patient. Patients are generally first evaluated in the mid-teenage years by their dentist, orthodontist, or by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.

All outpatient surgery is performed under appropriate intravenous anesthesia to maximize patient comfort. Our doctors are trained, licensed, and highly experienced in providing various types of anesthesia for patients.

Orthognathic Surgery

Orthognathic Surgery (Top)

Orthognathic surgery is needed when the jaws don’t meet correctly and/or teeth don’t seem to fit within the jaws. Teeth are straightened with orthodontics and corrective jaw surgeryrepositions the misaligned jaw. This not only improves facial appearance, but also ensures that teeth meet correctly and function properly

Cosmetic Dentistry

Today's teeth whitening treatments are so easy, convenient and affordable that they've become a regular part of everyone's beauty routine. If you haven't tried one yet, you'll be happy to know that you have plenty of choices. For the fastest, most dramatic results, consider laser teeth whitening. These professional grade teeth whitening kits produce excellent results over a longer period of time. They can be purchased from your dentist or over-the-counter, but for best results, it's recommended that you always consult with a dentist before trying any over-the-counter teeth whitening system.

Dental veneers are becoming a very common procedure for patients who are looking to improve their smile. Veneers can change the alignment, shape, shade, and overall aesthetics of a client’s current dentition. Dr. Ostro and Dr. Rabovskaya works with elite laboratories and uses the highest caliber materials to ensure that our patient’s get the best NYC Veneers that look beautiful and bright. Root Canal

A root canal, is performed on a tooth that is so severely decayed or infected that it is in danger of being lost. It is also performed on a tooth that will not stop hurting after a restoration has been done. We perform root canal therapy as an in-office procedure under local anesthesia. After gently removing the infected or inflamed pulp, we carefully shape and disinfect the inside of the canal. The canal is then filled and sealed with a biocompatible material. We use state of the art techniques and equipment to complete our procedures and to make patients feel as comfortable as possible. In most cases, we can complete this procedure in a single visit.

Oral Mucositis

We will create a custom oral cancer treatment program for the cancer patients before, during, and after treatment (e.g., chemotherapy, radiation, surgery and stem cell/bone marrow transplants). We offer  this breakthrough treatment called PBM to treat a side effect of cancer therapy called oral mucositis. A common side effect of cancer treatments in which the patient develops painful or debilitating ulcers in the soft tissues within the oral cavity.

Oral mucositis affects the cheeks, lips, gums, inner cavity and tonsilary region — all of the soft tissues. Treatment options today are rather limited. Patients are usually given pain medication and/or antiseptic mouthwash. Beyond that, there’s not much doctors can do for the painful condition that at advanced stages, can inhibit a patient’s ability to eat and speak.

Teeth Whitening

Laser teeth whitening – is the safest and most effective teeth whitening method, harmless for teeth and gums. Laser whitening with EPIC10 achieves deep whitening effect – the laser light activates the bleaching agent and reaches not only enamel, but also dentine, and whitens teeth up to the maximum brightness. At the end of the procedure, the teeth are covered with an anti-sensitivity gel.

Dr. Ostro and Dr. Rabovskaya make every effort to safe a tooth if possible. Sometimes, however, teeth cannot be saved and need to be removed. The most common reason for extracting a tooth is tooth damage due to breakage or decay. Some other possible reasons for tooth extraction could include extra teeth blocking other teeth from coming in, preparation for orthodontic treatment or insufficient space for wisdom teeth to grow in. Some extractions are simple and can be done quickly and painlessly, with little recovery time.

General Dentist

I went there for tooth extraction. I usually bleed a lot but to my surprise there was very minimal bleeding and it healed nicely. When I went there for implant that was also a breeze. I really had some bad experience with my previously dentists. Very happy with Dr. Ostro's knowledge, experience and calmness. Highly recommended him.

Danielle K
